BIG SKY ROUNDUP: Sac State earns first win, Weber drills Idaho

BIG SKY CONFERENCE & ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASES

Only one team remains unbeaten in Big Sky Conference men’s basketball action after Thursday night. Weber State topped Idaho in commanding fashion to move to 3-0 in conference play while Sacramento State picked up its first conference win of the season in a close contest at Southern Utah. North Dakota won its fourth straight with a victory at Montana State (click here). Montana kept pace by pounding Northern Colorado (click here) at home. (Click on score lines for full box scores.)

Sacramento State 88, Southern Utah 83 – Nick Hornsby posted a career-high 28 points as the Hornets (4-11, 1-3 BSC) picked up their first conference win of the season Thursday night at Southern Utah (4-13, 2-2 BSC). Hornsby also pulled down 14 rebounds, which was one board shy of a career-high. Izayah Mauriohooho-Le’afa and Marcus Graves each added 16 points while Justin Strings scored 11 points. Sac State shot .560 from the field.

Randy Onuwasor led the Thunderbirds with 27 points on 10-of-20 shooting with seven rebounds and three assists. James McGee went 5-for-8 from beyond the arc on the way to 21-point performance. SUU hosts Portland State on Saturday while Sacramento State heads to Northern Arizona.

Weber State 91, Idaho 66 – Five Wildcats reached double-figures as WSU (8-6, 3-0 BSC) topped Idaho (6-9, 1-3 BSC) to remain unbeaten in Big Sky play. Jeremy Senglin made 8-of-14 from the field to lead all-scorers with 21 points. Ryan Richardson shot 50 percent from behind the arc to finish with 13 points and Kyndahl Hill added 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting with seven rebounds.

Victor Sanders shot 6-of-11 to lead the Vandals with 13 points.

Eastern Washington 92, Idaho State 85 – Jacob Wiley scored 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting to lead the Eagles (11-6, 3-1 BSC) to a crucial conference win at Idaho State (3-13, 0-3 BSC). Wiley also made 7-of-8 from the free-throw line and cleaned the glass with a game-high seven rebounds. Bogdan Bliznyuk was second in scoring for the Eagles with 19 points.

Brandon Boyd led ISU with 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting including 5-of-3 from 3-point territory. Ethan Telfair added 21 on 7-of-19 shooting.
