OGDEN, Utah (December 7, 2018) – Big Sky Conference deputy commissioner Ron Loghry has resigned from the conference office, effective December 31, the league announced Friday.
Loghry served longer than any employee in the 55-year history of the league office. His departure ends a 23-year, seven-month tenure that saw him excel in a variety of job titles, most recently a five-month stint as the interim commissioner.
“Ron Loghry has been a driving force behind the Big Sky Conference’s success for almost a quarter of a century,’’ said Robert Nelsen, Chair of the Big Sky Presidents’ Council. “Without him, the Conference would never have accomplished what we have accomplished. We, and I in particular, owe him utmost gratitude and respect. He is a true servant leader.”
Loghry, a graduate of the University of Wyoming, began his employment with the Big Sky Conference in May of 1995. One of his first assignments was physically moving the conference office from Boise, Idaho, to Ogden, Utah. He came to the league as the Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations and has also earned the titles of Assistant Commissioner/Operations, Director of Championships, Chief of Staff, Associate Commissioner, Senior Associate Commissioner, and Deputy Commissioner.
“It has been my distinct pleasure and honor to be part of this great conference for as long as I have, and I owe a debt of gratitude to Doug Fullerton for taking a chance on a kid from a small Wyoming town,” Loghry said. “Me and my family have had so many memorable experiences and have made lifetime friendships during my time with the Big Sky so this was a difficult decision, but it’s time to write a new chapter.”
The native of Riverton, Wyo., has at times been the conference’s director of compliance, overseen the day-to-day operations of the conference office, produced schedules, directed the league’s property division, managed the budget, served as the office liaison for all coaches’ groups, been a member of the NCAA Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct Committee, and a past member of the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer West Regional advisory committee. He was a driving force in the league’s inclusion in the men’s basketball Western Officiating Consortium and launching the league’s first neutral site men’s and women’s basketball championships.
Loghry served under previous commissioners Doug Fullerton and Andrea Williams. Tom Wistrcill will officially assume the commissioner role on Monday, December 10.
