Weber State’s Taron Johnson invited to NFL Draft Combine

Weber State senior cornerback Taron Johnson been invited to participate in the 2018 NFL Combine ahead of the NFL Draft. The combine will be held Feb. 27-March 5 in Indianapolis.  

More than 300 NFL prospects will participate in the combine in their quest to achieve their NFL dreams. Johnson’s defensive back workout is scheduled for March 5.

Johnson is one of just two players from the Big Sky Conference on this year’s combine participants list and is one of 20 players from FCS football. He’s also just the 13th Wildcat ever and the first since 2009 to participate in the NFL Combine.

Johnson finished his four-year career at Weber State in 2017 and was a consensus First Team All-American. He was also named the 2017 Big Sky Defensive MVP and was a unanimous selection to the All-Big Sky first team. Johnson was a team captain and helped Weber State to a record-setting season where the Wildcats won a school-record 11 games, won the Big Sky Conference title, won two games in the FCS Playoffs and finished the season fifth in the nation, the highest ranking in school history. 

As a senior Johnson played in 12 games at cornerback for the Wildcats. He had three interceptions, totaled nine pass breakups and had 49 tackles with three tackles for loss and two sacks. He also became Weber State’s career leader in pass breakups with 42. 

He also played in the Reece’s Senior Bowl in January. He was just the fourth player ever from Weber State to play in the prestigious game and the first in 18 years.
