UM ATHLETICS PRESS RELEASE

Montana men’s basketball coach Travis DeCuire announced Friday that Alphonso Anderson and Jared Samuelson will not be returning to the program for the 2017-18 season.

“Jared and Alphonso have been outstanding young men in the classroom and in the Grizzly community.  I support them in their decisions to move in another direction.  I wish them continued success in their future endeavors,” DeCuire said in a UM press release.

Anderson, a 6-6 freshman forward from Tacoma, Washington, spent the 2016-17 season as a redshirt following knee surgery on his meniscus. If not for the injury, Anderson was expected to challenge for a starting spot for Montana.

Samuelson, a 6-7 redshirt freshman from Billings, averaged 5.1 points per game in his first season as a Griz, appearing all 32 games in the ’16-’17 season and averaging 11 minutes per contest. Samuelson was the Grizzlies’ seventh-leading scorer and carried the team’s best shooting percentage at 57 percent from the floor.

The move leaves Montana with two open scholarships.
