MSU PRESS RELEASE
Jon Reeves, a volunteer assistant with the University of Oklahoma’s men’s tennis team for the last three years, has been named the head women’s tennis coach at Montana State University, announced MSU Director of Athletics Peter Fields.
Reeves, who helped guide the Sooners to back-to-back NCAA men’s tennis championship runner-up appearances in 2014 and 2015, replaces Denise Albrecht, who resigned after 15 years with the program in May.
A native of Missouri, Reeves recently finished his 23rd year of coaching tennis. Reeves boasts an impressive and extensive resume` which includes stints as an assistant women’s tennis coach at Virginia, Virginia Tech, William & Mary, and UCLA.
“Jon has a vast array of experience coaching the game of tennis at all levels,” Fields said. “He has developed talent from juniors all the way to the professional level. Jon will be able to come into the program and move it forward.
“In addition, he is committed to giving the student-athlete the best possible experience, while asking them to be at their best on the court, in the classroom and in the community.”
This past season, Reeves worked under OU head coach John Roddick and helped pace the Sooners to a 29-3 overall mark; a No. 1 ITA ranking, the 2015 ITA National Indoor title as well as a Big 12 championship.
“My wife and I are thrilled to be a part of the Montana State athletic department,” Reeves said. “After my visit, and seeing all the great things, the togetherness of the program, the university and a close-knit community, we are excited to get to Bozeman. I would like to thank Peter Fields, Thijs Goossens and the search committee for being so thorough in the hiring process.
“I’m also excited to meet with the student-athletes. It will be important for us to all get on the same page and move the program forward.”
