With the regular season less than a month away, Montana State is down a man.
During pre-season practice last week, the Bobcat men’s basketball team lost swingman Quinton Everett for an undetermined amount of time. Everett, a 6-foot-3 junior who transferred from Gillette Community College in the off-season, had surgery on his right hand last week.
The extent of the injury is not known. Head coach Brian Fish said Everett is out for an undetermined amount of time.
Everett started nine games at Gillette last season, averaging 14.2 points, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game. He scored 20 points six times, including a season-high 26. Everett played for one year at Little Big Horn Community College for former Bobcat standout Pete Conway. He is a slashing guard who can finish at the rim effectively. He is expected to compete with Montana State junior Stephan Holm and sophomore Zach Green for time on the wing this winter.
Everett is one of eight new players on the Bobcat roster. Fish also added guard Nahjee Matlock, forwards Tyson Kanseyo and Sarp Gobeloglu and center Shy Blake from the junior college ranks. Fish signed guards Tyler Hall and Mandrell Worthy and forward Sam Neumann from the prep ranks. Worthy has not been practicing because of a knee issue that is still under evaluation. Worthy is expected to redshirt this season, Fish said.
The Bobcats return Holm, Green, senior guard Marcus Colbert, senior forward Danny Robison and sophomore forward Quinn Price return from last season’s 7-23 squad.
“We are behind of where we normally would be but that’s because we have so many new guys who we are trying to play,” Fish said on Tuesday night.
Montana State opens its season against Northwest Indian College on November 3 at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Bozeman.
