For coaches, first rivalry memories last a lifetime

Jerome Souers remembers watching the rivalry between Montana State and Montana for the first time 30 years ago.

Northern Arizona’s 18th-year head coach was the running backs coach on Don Read’s at Division II Portland State at the time. The Vikings had matchups against seven Big Sky Conference teams that season, including MSU and UM. Souers and the staff put the 1984 Cat-Griz game film on to study.
