Idaho State beats Idaho on buzzer-beater, EWU topples Weber

The Big Sky race became even closer Thursday as Weber State and Idaho were both handed losses to snap winning streaks. The second-place Wildcats saw a nine-game streak come to an end with a 75-70 loss to Eastern Washington at home to fall to 12-3 in conference play. Bogdan Bliznyuk paced the 10-5 Eagles with 27 points to help EWU stay in fourth place and in the hunt for a first round bye in the Big Sky Tournament.

Idaho State’s Brandon Boyd knocked down a three with 2.3 seconds to play to finish with a career-best 32 points and lift the Bengals to an 86-83 upset win over Idaho. The Bengals improved to 8-7 in league play for sixth in the standings while the Vandals fell to 11-4 to remain in third. Portland State collected a 96-91 overtime road win over Southern Utah with 20 points coming from Holland Woods. With the win, the Vikings improved to 7-8 in the league for seventh. Northern Arizona opened up the night with a 58-53 home win over Sacramento State with JoJo Anderson coming off the bench to lead the Lumberjacks with 15 points.

Montana’s first-place lead was strengthened despite being idle. The Grizzlies enter Saturday’s matchup with rival Montana State in Missoula with a 13-2 league record. The Griz now hold a one-game lead in the loss column over Weber State and a two-game lead over Idaho.
