Game Recap

Lady Griz use balanced attack to cruise to road win at Portland State

THE MATCHUP

Montana has been riding a roller coast the last few weeks, from beating Weber State 61-59 on a Sophia Stiles buzzer-beater in Missoula to losing to defending Big Sky Conference champion Idaho State two days later, losing senior guard Sammy Fatkin in the process to an ankle injury. Without Fatkin, the Lady Griz beat Southern Utah 69-64 the following Monday and thought they had Northern Arizona beat on another Stiles buzzer-beater. Instead, Khiarica Rasheed hit a shot at the buzzer and was fouled, converting the free throw to live NAU to a 60-59 win.

Montana then lost to previously struggling Eastern Washington 63-57 (EWU went on to beat Montana State in Bozeman three days later) and needed every bit of the cleanse provided by beating Idaho 76-73 on Thursday in Missoula.

Portland State entered Saturday’s game at the Stott Center in the City of Roses with zero Big Sky wins in 13 conference outings.

THE RESULT

Five Lady Griz scored at least eight points and Montana breezed to a 76-55 win despite Fatkin, UM’s leading scorer and offensive catalyst, her fifth straight game.

The win moves Montana to 9-6 in league play and 16-8 overall. In Chelsea Gregg’s first season as head coach, Portland State is now 0-14 in league play, 5-17 overall.
