Montana’s Toure, Lewis, MSU’s Bailey earn Big Sky weekly awards

FARMINGTON, Utah (November 18, 2019) – The Big Sky Conference announced its ROOT SPORTS football players of the week on Monday. The ROOT SPORTS Offensive Player of the Week honor went to Montana wide receiver Samori Toure. Montana linebacker Jace Lewis earned ROOT SPORTS Defensive Player of the Week accolades, while Montana State kicker Tristan Bailey was named the ROOT SPORTS Special Teams honoree.

Toure registered a career-high 193 yards in Montana’s 35-16 win over No. 3 Weber State. Toure recorded three touchdowns on just eight catches, as he averaged 24.1 yards per reception. In addition to a season-long touchdown reception of 79 yards, he also had touchdowns for 10 and 59 yards.

Lewis was instrumental in holding down Weber State’s run game. Lewis and the rest of the Montana defense held the Wildcats to 69 yards on the ground and an average of 1.9 yards per carry. The junior tallied a game-high 16 tackles, including seven solo with a tackle for loss.

Bailey scored nine of Montana State’s 17 points in the win at UC Davis, including seven in a 13-point fourth quarter. Bailey’s 37-yard field goal less than four minutes into the final quarter began the Bobcats’ 13-0 game-closing run, and he nailed a 41-yard field goal with 3:39 to play to seal the victory. Bailey tallied six kickoffs, as two resulted in touchbacks and the other four all pinned the Aggies inside their own 25-yard line. He was also 3-for-3 in made PATs.

The ROOT SPORTS Game of the Week features Montana State at Montana in the Brawl of the Wild. The game will kick off at 12 p.m. MT from Washington-Grizzly Stadium.
