OGDEN, Utah – The race for the top seed in the Big Sky Conference has required high-level play from several teams.

With six teams still in contention for a first-round bye, each is relying upon strong performances from multiple players in the stretch-run towards the season’s conclusion. Even teams that may not be in contention for a first-round bye are playing tough, registering marquee performances from individual players.

Only Montana State and Eastern Washington are in contention for the regular season title, and the Bobcats got the weekend started off right with a big win over top four-seed contender Weber State.

For her performance in the Weber State game, and for leading the Bobcats to a 2-0 record, Montana State forward Peyton Ferris is this week’s Big Sky Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Ferris came off the bench to average 27.5 points and five rebounds, averaging 64.7 percent from the field. In a 92-71 win over Weber State Thursday, Ferris made 16-of-17 shots from the floor, scoring 33 points in just 22 minutes of action.

The Twin Bridges, Mont., product also led the Bobcats in scoring in an overtime win over Idaho State Saturday, scoring 22 points, while making 10-of-15 free-throws.

While Ferris’s performance led the week, one performance in the Big Sky wasn’t far off. Sacramento State guard Adella Randle-El, who has been a strong contributor for the Hornets the entire season, averaged 23 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 5.5 steals a game last week. The Hornets went 1-1 at home, beating Northern Colorado before falling to North Dakota.

Other nominated included: Anna Policicchio, Idaho State; Brittney Dunbar, Weber State; Pia Jurhar, Portland State; Kyleigh Hiser, Northern Colorado; Mikayla Ferenz, Idaho; Alycia Sims, Montana; Tisha Phillips, Eastern Washington; Mia Loyd, North Dakota; and Jamie Smith, Southern Utah.
