THE TRANSFER

Patrick Rohrbach, P (Montana > Arizona State)

Unlike everybody else on this list, Rohrbach didn’t transfer for football. Instead the Kalispell product and reigning FCS Punter of the Year is heading to Arizona State to join its ROTC program with the hope of eventually attending Air Force’s flight school. That context sort of pales any discussion of the on-field impact of his transfer, but Rohrbach will be a big loss for the Griz. After replacing Brian Buschini, Rohrbach averaged 45.2 yards per punt as a freshman, third in the country and second in program history. The Grizzlies’ fearsome punt teams – they finished second in the country in net punting average, which includes returns – rely equally on kamikaze coverage from the players on the field and a punter who can combine precision and power to put the ball exactly where he wants it. With Buschini and Rohrbach, they’ve had that each of the last two seasons. If they can’t find a replacement for the second year in a row, will the Griz lose a valuable hidden advantage?
