SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Director of Athletics Mark Orr announced today that Jody Sears will not return as Sacramento State’s head football coach for the 2019 season.
The Hornets completed the 2018 season with a 2-8 overall record and an 0-7 mark in Big Sky Conference games.
Sears completed his five seasons at Sacramento State with a 20-35 overall record. He was named the Big Sky Co-Coach of the Year in 2017 after leading the team to a 7-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in league games.
“Decisions like this are never easy,” Orr said. “I would like to thank Coach Sears for his dedication to the student-athletes and the program over the last five years.”
A national search for the next Sacramento State head coach will commence immediately.
