Souers returns to Missoula as NAU coach for final time

MISSOULA — Since the abrupt and surprising announcement, Jerome Souers has not had much time to process the emotions of each passing moment.

On Saturday, Northern Arizona’s longtime head coach will celebrate another anniversary of his end at NAU. After 20 years and 118 victories, the 59-year-old will not return for the 2018 season, the school announced in September.

Souers has not had to deal with many “lasts” since the announcement. His team has played four of its six games since at Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff. His last trips to San Luis Obispo to play Cal Poly and to Portland to play Portland State do not harbor the memories that are sure to flood over him as he leads his Lumberjacks into Washington-Grizzly Stadium one final time on Saturday afternoon.
