STATS FCS Top 25 poll hosts three Big Sky teams in Top 10

OGDEN, Utah (Oct. 29, 2018) – The Big Sky continues to shine in the STATS FCS and American Football Coaches (AFCA) Top 25 national polls were released today.

For the second week in a row, the Big Sky claimed the 4-5-6 spots in the STATS FCS Poll. Weber State leads the way at No. 4, followed by Eastern Washington and UC Davis.

In the AFCA Coaches’ poll, the Eagles remained in the No. 4 spot after a 38-14 home win over Idaho. The Eagles are first in the Big Sky in total offense and fourth in the FCS (526.8.) Eastern Washington has now been ranked in the top 10 for nine consecutive weeks.

With its third consecutive win, the Wildcats hold down the No. 5 spot for the second straight week in the AFCA Coaches’ poll.  Weber State registered a 35-30 win over a ranked North Dakota squad on the road. Weber State is now 3-0 versus ranked opponents this season. The Wildcats are second in the league in scoring defense, holding their opponents to an average of 23.0 points per game. Weber State leads the FCS in turnovers gained at 23.

The Aggies continue to have a historic season as it jumped from No. 13 to No. 9 in the AFCA Coaches’ poll. It’s the first time UC Davis has ever ranked in the top 10 in both national polls. The Aggies lead the Big Sky and are ranked fourth in the FCS in passing offense at 334.2 yards per game.

This is the third straight week the Big Sky has three teams in the top 10 poll. Prior to this season, the Big Sky last had three teams in the top tier in Week 1 of the 2015 season – Eastern Washington (7th), Montana (8th) and Montana State (9th) in the Coaches’ Poll.

Other Big Sky teams receiving votes were Idaho State and Montana State.

CHICAGO – Oct. 29, 2018 –– Kennesaw State is campaigning on social media to get ESPN’s iconic “College GameDay” to broadcast from the site of its final regular-season game next month.

Quite simply, the Owls’ fourth-year program has done a lot to attract attention, and it’s nationally ranked between the two “GameDay” favorites, North Dakota State and James Madison.

On Monday, the Owls (7-1) held the No. 2 spot in the STATS FCS Top 25 for the second straight week – its position bolstered by a 38-10 win at Charleston Southern which set the Big South Conference record as a 15th straight FCS regular-season win. Since losing to FBS Georgia State in their season opener, the Owls have outscored seven opponents 355-73.

Should coach Brian Bohannon’s squad keep the winning going against Campbell (Saturday) and Monmouth (Nov. 10) to claim a second straight Big South title, it would increase the magnitude of the Nov. 17 regular-season finale against Ohio Valley Conference power Jacksonville State – the first college football game at SunTrust Park in Atlanta.

Kennesaw State and the top FCS teams kept up with each other this past Saturday. The top nine teams didn’t change in the national media poll, with defending national champion North Dakota State, No. 1 with all … first-place votes, and James Madison, the 2017 national runner-up, at No. 3.

There were two newcomers to the poll, Dartmouth (7-0) at No. 24 and Southeast Missouri (6-2) at No. 25. It was Dartmouth’s first appearance since 2015 and SEMO’s first since 2014.

A national panel of sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries select the STATS FCS Top 25. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
