Montana, Weber State remain unbeaten in league play

After the dust settled Thursday, only three teams remained undefeated in Big Sky Conference play. Montana sits atop the conference standings with a 3-0 record while Weber State improved to 2-0 with a win over North Dakota. The league’s only other undefeated team, Idaho, was idle Thursday night.

Idaho State 83, Northern Colorado 78 — Idaho State (6-8, 1-1 BSC) earned its first conference win of the season in a hard-fought home game Thursday night. Geno Luzcando led the Bengals with a career-high 29 points on a perfect 10-of-10 from the floor. Luzcando’s 10-of-10 set a new Idaho State record for field goal percentage in a game and tied the seventh-best mark in Big Sky Conference history. Ethan Telfair added 23 points for ISU

Northern Colorado (4-11, 1-2 BSC) had a big night offensively from Dallas Anglin who became the first Bear to score more than 30 points on the season. Anglin dropped 31 on 11-of-18 shooting and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Montana 79, Portland State 66 – Montana (8-6, 3-0 BSC) earned a win in its first home conference game of the season thanks to a balanced scoring attack. Four of the Grizzlies’ starters reached double-digits with Walter Wright leading the way with 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Brandon Gfeller was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc for 14 points. Martin Breunig picked up another double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.

Isaiah Pineiro led the way for Portland State (5-8, 1-1 BSC) with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Colin Spikerman had a strong night defensively with a game-high three blocks for the Vikings.

Weber State 74, North Dakota 62 – The Wildcats of Weber State (10-5, 2-0 BSC) picked up their second straight conference home victory with a 12-point win over North Dakota (6-8, 1-2 BSC). Jeremy Senglin led WSU and all scorers with 26 points on 7-of-15 shooting including five 3-pointers. He became the 31st player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points with Thursday’s performance. Joel Bolomboy picked up his 14th double-double of the season with 20 points and 23 rebounds. Bolomboy’s 23 boards is the most by a single player in the Big Sky thus far this season.

North Dakota had only one player in double-figures with Quinton Hooker earning 23 points. UND struggled to find the hoop in the early going as the Fighting Hawks only hit 32.1 percent from the field in the first half.
