WATCH – Big Sky women’s hoops tourney – No. 7 PSU shocks No. 2 MSU

On the second day of the Big Sky Conference women’s basketball championship in Boise, Idaho, No. 7 seed Portland State shocked the defending champions of Montana State. The Vikings tied a single-game school record by hitting 15 3-pointers, including a combined 11 from its red-hot back court of sophomore Esmeralda Morales and senior Jada Lewis. The Vikings also held MSU to 34 percent shooting in upsetting the defending champions 77-65.

Portland State moves on to the semifinals and will play a to be determined opponent on Tuesday.

Montana State seniors Darian White, Kola Bad Bear and Madison Jackson end their careers with 84 wins, the most by a single class in MSU history. Following the loss, White, Bad Bear and MSU 18th-year head coach Tricia Binford Portland State went 0-20 in conference play last season.

Now, the Vikings are into the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament under second-year head coach Chelsea Gregg after winning their 10th Big Sky games, including their second this weekend. PSU will play the winner of No. 3 Sac State and No. 6 Idaho, who play at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
