FARMINGTON, Utah (June 23, 2025) – Last night, when the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Weber State alum Dillon Jones became the first former Big Sky men’s basketball player in history to play in and win an NBA Championship.
Jones, who is in his rookie season with the Thunder, was drafted with the 26th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
The Wildcat alum was only the second former Big Sky player to participate in an NBA Finals, joining Boise State’s Chris Childs who accomplished the feat in 1999 with the New York Knicks.
This season, Jones appeared in 54 games. He logged a total of 551 minutes played, scoring 135 points, pulling down 121 rebounds and dishing out 58 assists.
Jones completed one of the great careers in Weber State and Big Sky history in 2024. He finished his career as a Big Sky MVP, a three-team All-Big Sky selection, a three-time All-District selection, and a former conference Freshman of the Year.
He played in 119 career games at Weber State and finished his career ranking in the Weber State career top 10 in 13 different categories. He finished his career as WSU’s all-time leader in steals, and ranks second in assists, second in free throws made, third in rebounding, and fifth in scoring. He also finished his career ranking fourth in Big Sky history in career rebounds and 10th in steals. Also finished with 56 career double-doubles, the second-most in WSU history.
He finished his career as the only player in Big Sky history with at least 1,500 career points, 1,000 rebounds, 400 assists, and 200 steals. Since the 1992093 season, he is one of only four players in the nation to post those numbers in a career.
