MSU’s Hall earns Big Sky weekly award

on

After scoring 37 points to lead Montana State to 78-69 a win over rival Montana on Saturday, Tyler Hall earned league and national player of the week honors on Monday.

Hall earned Big Sky Conference Player of the Week honors, and also landed the Lou Henson National Mid-Major Player of the Week Award from College Basketball Insiders. It was Hall’s first national award, and his fourth weekly league honor.

The sophomore from Rock Island, Illinois, tallied the third-most points ever scored by a Bobcat against the Grizzlies (after Don Rae in 1961 and Jack Gillespie in 1968). His 37 points Saturday pushed him into third nationally at 23.3 per game – he leads the Big Sky – and gives him 675 for the season. That is a school record and 18th-most in Big Sky history. His six three-pointers Saturday gives him 107 this season, the sixth-best campaign in Big Sky history and a Bobcat record.

Hall, who finished Saturday 11-for-13 from the floor and 6-for-8 from three-point range, got the Cats off to hot starts in each half. He scored the first points of the game with a three-pointer, and scored the first five points of the second half. And finished strong by making six of his seven free throws in the final four minutes.

Montana State closes the regular season on the road, with games at Idaho State on Thursday and Weber State on Saturday. Tipoff each night is 7 pm.
