Big Sky Conference

Bobcats start 2nd season searching for 1st BSC win

When Jeff Choate took over as the head football coach at Montana State, he stated the program he inherited only needed a tuneup rather than a complete overhaul.

Coming out of spring ball, Choate knew his team needed some extra pieces to fill in the gaps to reattain the level that produced four playoff berths in five seasons between 2010 and 2014 so the first-time college head coach brought in 34 new players during fall camp in August, including 10 transfers. Coming out of a physical fall camp, Choate believed his defense would be much improved and that transfer quarterback Tyler Bruggman was the answer for his team under center. After a 2-1 start that included a narrow 20-17 loss at FBS Idaho, Choate was optimistic his team could be competitive in the Big Sky Conference in his first season.

Coming out of his team’s late bye last week, Choate has a new sort of optimism and a new set of expectations even if Montana State’s 2016 season has not gone how any Bobcat had hoped.
