BOZEMAN — Jeff Choate almost cannot contain himself when Chad Kanow’s name comes up.
“Chad Kanow, I love that kid,” Montana State’s head coach said during an interview in April. “He is a ball playing Jesse, I’ll tell you what.”
The rangy, quick linebacker had exactly zero Division I offers when Montana State came to the table following his all-area junior season. The scheme Kanow played in at Great Oak High in Temecula, California required him to blitz and tackle the ball carrier. That’s all.
But that singular scheme helped him hone his natural instinct of finding the football and a pure tackling ability reminiscent of former MSU All-American linebacker Alex Singleton.
