Jamie Marshall, Montana State’s defensive coordinator for the last nine seasons and Rob Ash’s assistant head coach the previous three, has joined Patrick Ross’s staff at Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Missouri.

Lindenwood, a perennial NAIA power in the 1990s and 2000s, moved up to Division II in 2011. The Lions defeated Northern Colorado of the Big Sky Conference in their first game as a Division II member in 2011.

In 2012, Lindenwood played in the Mineral Water Bowl. In 12 seasons as the head coach at Lindenwood, Ross has compiled a record of 101-48, advancing to the NAIA playoffs five times and the NAIA national title game in 2009.

Marshall came to Montana State from Drake, his alma mater, with Ash in 2007. Marshall helped the Bobcats lead the Big Sky in total defense on three occasions and was the defensive coordinator for Montana State’s Big Sky title teams in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

In Marshall’s defenses, Dane Fletcher and Jody Owens claimed Big Sky Defensive MVP awards, an accolade Brad Daly won and paired with the Buck Buchanan Award given to the national FCS Defensive MVP. Caleb Schreibeis also won the Buck, marking the first two such awards in MSU history.

Marshall played at Drake for Ash before serving as an assistant under Ash at the Des Moines, Iowa school. Ash was hired to replace Mike Kramer at MSU in 2007. He compiled a 70-38 record, including 50-23 in Big Sky play in nine seasons. But Montana State’s first losing season since 2001, a 5-6 finish in 2015, ended the Ash era in Bozeman.
