The big man Montana State has been counting on is not coming to Bozeman.

Kavell Bigby-Williams, the top-ranked junior college player in the country, once upon a time signed with Brad Huse at MSU. Because of different academic standards in the United Kingdom, Bigby-Williams was ruled an NCAA non-qualifier. He has been at Gillette (Wyoming) College for the past two years.

The 6-foot-10, 225-pound sophomore is currently averaging 17.4 points, 13.9 rebounds and six blocks per game. His rebounding and blocked shot totals are the best in the national among Division I junior college. Last week, Bigby-Williams averaged 24 points, 16 rebounds and eight blocks in earning National Junior College Player of the Week honors.

In recent weeks, he has been visited in Gillette or been in contact with coaches from Utah, USC, Oklahoma State, Auburn, Utah State, Nevada, Nebraska and San Diego State.

On Wednesday, Bigby-Williams confirmed that Montana State nor the Big Sky Conferece was a part of his future plans.

“I have no interest in Montana State or the Big Sky Conference,” Bigby-Williams said in a text message to Skyline Sports. I only signed there because they were the only school I had.

“I never really wanted to go there. Before I had bigger schools, I had no intention of going to Montana State either.”

The Bobcats lose seniors Danny Robison and Marcus Colbert off this year’s team.
