OGDEN, Utah (March 7, 2018) – After guiding Montana to its second regular season title in the last four seasons, Grizzlies head coach Travis DeCuire has been named the Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year by the league’s head coaches.

In 2017-18, DeCuire guided the Grizzlies to the fourth-best conference start in Big Sky history at 13-0 en route to a 16-2 finish and No. 1 seed in the Big Sky Men’s Basketball Championship. Montana claimed its second regular season title under DeCuire, the last being in 2015.

With just one senior on its roster this season, Montana finished the regular season with a 23-7 record for the sixth-most wins in school history.

DeCuire coached three Grizzlies to All-Big Sky honors in junior guard Ahmaad Rorie (1st team), junior guard Michael Oguine (2nd team) and junior forward Jamar Akoh (3rd team). Oguine was also tabbed the league’s defensive player of the year.

The Grizzlies have now posted three 20-win seasons with DeCuire at the helm of the program. He became the first head coach in Montana history to record back-to-back 20-win campaigns in his first two seasons, currently carrying an 80-48 (.625) career record with the Grizzlies heading into this week’s Big Sky Championship.

DeCuire and the Grizzlies set their sights on their first Big Sky Tournament title since 2013 as they open play in the quarterfinals against reigning champion No. 8 North Dakota on Thursday at 12:05 p.m. PT.
