PORTLAND STATE SPORTS INFORMATION

Portland State football has added another transfer to its roster for 2016 with the addition of Maximo Espitia. A recent graduate from California with a degree in Sociology, Espitia has entered graduate school at Portland State with one year of eligibility remaining.

Espitia (pronounced uh-SPEETH-ee-uh) is a versatile athlete who began his career at Cal as a fullback, but played tight end, slot receiver, safety and outside linebacker during his time with the Golden Bears. He played in 19 games during two seasons (2012-13), did not play in 2014 and missed 2015 due to injury.

Espitia is expected to play a tight end/slotback role for the Vikings in 2016.

Espitia is a native of Salem, Oregon. He played fullback and quarterback at South Salem High School and was listed as a three-star college recruit. Espitia totaled over 2,000 yards rushing and receiving and was responsible for 26 touchdowns as a senior. He had 60 total touchdowns rushing, passing and receiving in high school.

Espitia is one of five transfers added to the program this summer. The Vikings have also brought in offensive lineman Tyshon Mosley (Utah State), defensive back Jordan Preator (BYU), tight end Cole Ford (UTEP) and wide receiver Nathan Hawthorne.
