Wright, Bolomboy share Big Sky weekly award

Weber State’s Joel Bolomboy and Montana’s Walter Wright were named Big Sky Conference men’s basketball co-Players of the Week after leading their squads to two straight conference wins. Both players averaged a double-double in two games last week and Bolomboy climbed to third place in the Big Sky career rebounds rankings.

Wright, a junior guard from Waterbury, Connecticut led Montana to wins over Portland State and Sacramento State last week. In a 79-66 win over PSU on Thursday, Wright scored 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting including 3-of-4 from 3-point range. He was one assist shy of a double-double with nine against the Vikings.

In Saturday’s 77-58 win over Sacramento State, Wright posted a double-double with a Big Sky season-high 12 assists to go along with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. For the week, the junior averaged 19 points and 10.5 assists with only three total turnovers.

Bolomboy had two double-doubles to stay atop the national rankings with 15. He also moved into third place in the Big Sky all-time career rebounding rankings with 1,117, eclipsing former Montana great and University of Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak. In Thursday’s 74-62 win over North Dakota, the Weber State senior scored 20 points and pulled down 23 rebounds for his second 20-20 double-double of the season. His 23 rebounds is a Big Sky season-high.

In Saturday’s 85-68 win over Northern Colorado, the Fort Worth, Texas, native scored 14 points and pulled down 17 rebounds for his 15th double-double of the season.

Montana and Weber State are the only two teams in the Big Sky Conference with unblemished conference records. Montana sits atop the Big Sky standings with a 4-0 mark and Weber State is currently second with a 3-0 conference record.
