BIG SKY BETS – FCS Playoff Quarterfinals

Last week, the Montana Grizzlies, the Montana State Bobcats and the Weber State Wildcats all took care of business as favorites at home. The one upset of the week and our one loss last week came when Austin Peay, a 13-point underdog, went more than 2,000 miles across the country and whipped No. 4 Sacramento State, 42-28.

This week, the Big Sky Conference has three teams in the final eight and two of them play. Montana and Weber State square off for the second time in less than a month. That means the Big Sky will be guaranteed at least one team in the semifinals for the third time in four years.

Montana State quarterback Tucker Rovig (12) throws deep from the pocket vs. Albany Saturday December 7, 2019 in the second round of the FCS Playoffs/by Brooks Nuanez

Austin Peay heads into Bozeman on a high. JaVaughn Craig leads the red hot Governors into Bobcat Stadium fresh off an upset of co-Big Sky Champion Sacramento State. Tucker Rovig looked better than ever last weekend. The Bobcat special teams looked to be the X-Factor last weekend and think that will stand true this weekend. Look for the defense to continue their reign this weekend, and shut down Austin Peay. I also think Travis Jonsen will make his mark on this game. Jonsen will guide the Cats to victory on the back of strong Montana State defensive showing. Troy Anderson is out for the season and I believe that will catch up with the Cats; but not this week. Give me Montana State in Bozeman -6.5. This is my Lock of the Week.

Pick: Montana State -6.5

Montana wide receiver Samori Toure (8) vs Weber State in 2019/by Brooks Nuanez

The rematch. Let’s not act like much has changed. There were injuries in the first match up, but it was a beat down unlike anything Weber had seen all season. Dalton Sneed is fully healthy, and based off of last week’s performance, primed and ready for the playoffs. Weber State looked good last weekend, but grinded out a win against a mediocre at best Kennesaw State squad. Jay Hill is a great coach but I don’t see the Wildcats stopping Montana this weekend. The Griz are primed for a matchup against JMU and it will happen I think Sneed and Olson make their mark on this game and prove to Weber it wasn’t just home field advantage. I love the Griz -2.5 on the road in Ogden.

Pick: Montana -2.5
